I am disappointed that Insider hasn`t posted any videos of Jan Steves crossing under the burled arch and getting the red lantern. Can`t find any other videos on YouTube or KTUU either. :(

Same here. I've checked back each day since finish for Bob, Jan, and her blowing out Widow's Lamp. I wrote to Insider asking. No reply.

Yes I am waiting on some video also. Been checking the site everyday. Does anyone know if the Insider has any video of Bob Chlupach and Jan Steves the last two mushers to arrive in Nome?

this thread just showed up in my news alert. I asked this question on FB and finally got a reply that the last two mushers were not filmed as they flew the film crew out prior to their arrival. It was pointed out that someone could have filmed it (ie using a phone if necessary) and the reply was that phones don't work in Nome (it was pointed out that the cameras on phones in Nome work the same as anywhere else. there is no need to upload until one gets outside) The answer was that if you don't like how the Back of the pack is ignored, buy a membership and vote.

Yep, unfortunately no video.

Insider crews were already gone; just another cog in the hectic schedule of flying people and supplies in and out of Nome at Iditarod time. Apparently no other network camera crews or independents were there either. Perhaps in the planning stages it was assumed the Red Lantern would arrive in time for the Finishers Banquet like they have the last few years. Not good, but what's done is done.

FYI... a camera phone in the dark in the hands of a spectator might work for posting clips on Facebook or YouTube, but it's highly unlikely to produce video quality usable by Insider or other media.

So what we're left with is a few stills like the nice example below. But most importantly - Jan and Bob both made it to Nome, safe and happy.

I remember seeing a phone held up so we could see Dallas coming down Front Street.
Yes, the quality wasn't great, but it was there and we could see the action.

I had no trouble with a cell phone in 2010 in Nome. Talked all the way to Florida, in fact ;)

I'm sorry, but this is just poor decision-making by Insider. If the last mushers haven't been withdrawn by the race committee, then there ought to be coverage of the finish. The excuse of 'trying to get everybody out of Nome' doesn't fly; race officials and support teams are still there, along withe some mushers and fans. If fans can still turn out at the finish for the Red Lantern, then Insider ought to be able to manage it. And that 'poor video quality' excuse doesn't work either. Even modern cell phones produce excellent quality video, not to mention compact digital cameras. Somebody just made the decision not to bother and is making up excuses for the lack of coverage. :x

Any video is better than no video at all, so I don't understand that argument.

I have read that the Iditarod committee/race officials control which media sources are allowed to record video/photos of the race. I have heard many people mention this. So, I wonder if this is the reason there are fewer resources available.
