Nice article about Aliy. Some of her history going all the way back to high school in the MidWest. A little about Allen, too.

Hope you get that Top 10 finish you are looking for, Aliy!

I was amazed to see an article on the IDITAROD in a local paper (St. Louis)! Especially before the race began, the end has been covered before.
I had never heard of the St. Louis connection before, another 1st.
Finallly have a lower midwesterner to root for. Go Aliy!

I hope you've checked out her and Allen's web site. It's a good one to follow during the race or any time during the year. Lots of updates.

The SP Kennel blog is one of the main reasons why I'm a huge fan of hers. She's opened up so much about the mushing world that it's so easy to be sucked in. Be sure to check out her YouTube videos from the 2010 Iditarod. The footage from the Happy Steps will have you on the edge of your seat better than any big budget Hollywood thriller.

I'm a big fan of Aliy's too! She's so down-to-earth. It's so nice to see a smart, educated woman devoting herself to a real backwoods, adventure lifestyle. And I love it that both she and her husband race, but neither steals the spotlight from the other. I think they have a great, mutually supportive relationsip, and that says a lot!

Well, they may not steal the spotlight from each other, but they sure "steal" dogs from each other!
When they came through during the middle of the CB300 this year, Allen had their kennel's "A" team, Aliy the "B" team, and daughter Bridget the... others. Their plan was that they would trade off that so she gets the Top Dogs for this year's Iditarod, and so on.

Now, Aliy is not getting the spotlight that some flash-in-the-pans who decide long-distance mushing isn't for them (who PAYS for these races, anyway? Must have a rich husband), despite gushing words on their blogs, but who cannot love her big tooth smile and her winning ways. Go Aliiiiy!

The SP Kennel blog is one of the best blogs about the Iditarod. I think I read there a few years ago that he's happy to take the puppy "B" team on the Iditarod and she always takes the "A" team.
