It's Finally Here-Racing Season

Postby saltybird on Thu Feb 03, 2011 11:37 pm

I am so glad the races have begun in dog mushing world! Beargrease & Don Bowers just finished earlier this week, Norway has a good 600 km one running right now (Sorlie, Andersen, & Ekran are competing), YQ starts Saturday, there's one in Willow starting Friday...lots of good info on mushers that kids might need for their research. Some people have different facts about themselves than are on the official Iditarod site so that's extrememly helpful to provide difference resources to cite. Plus it shows the kids how many races are run at any given time and they are not all long distance. I know my husband thinks I'm nuts, but hey, he does this for most all sports, at least my time is spent on one winter sport!

My students have been texting me all day! They are so excited to watch the race. They wanted to work on some data analysis for me this weekend to help me sleep more during the race. I looped with my students, so they knew that last year I didn't sleep the last few days because I was compiling historical checkpoint data. They each took a musher to compile data for this weekend!! They are so sweet!
