Just read the article on the home page of the Iditarod under featured news, where Mackey stated that he left his mitts in White Mountain and the interviewer saw that his fingertips were all frostbitten! I hope that his hands will be ok since he still currently has chronic pain in his hands from his cancer treatments. I hope his fingertips will recover.

Lance Mackey you are one of a kind, tough as nails yet so kind hearted and an exceptional man and musher.

Joe Runyan in his blog claims that he finds Mackey to be a truly inspirational sports personality. I could not agree more.
I do hope that the statement made by Lance upon arrival will make some impression on kids (teachers make sure to let them know), and on many other people, indeed,

Lance has been and is VERY successful. The numbers of his fans attest to this fact.
Lance, please, keep on going and giving, your courage and strength is inspiring us and strengthening us.

Just looking at your life and your racing really makes us stronger and should inspire those in difficulty.

After reading your book I became an instant fan. What you have had to endure in your life and come through it the way you did, the Lord has been with you all the way and is doing such great things in your life. I am proud to be one of your greatest admirers. These people who like to bash you are jealous of the man you are. Integrity, honesty, great team spirit , I can go on and on.
