That's an interesting observation with Dallas and his dogs in reference to affection. I also saw when he was sitting being interviewed by the news media with his dogs beside him with the flower wreaths on, his little daughter and wife came up to him and the daughter wanted to touch the dogs and Dallas pointed for them to move to the side and not be next to him. I thought that was a little strange also.

But very nice post about Mackey, he's best and always will be.

I have made the same observations regarding Dallas and his dogs. I have also noticed that with Mitch. I think the family has a bit of a different approach and relationship with their dogs than many other mushers. The epitome of a great and true relationship is Aliy and her dogs, or Martin Buser and his dogs, or Dee Dee and her dogs. Or the video when Ramey Smith won the golden harnass with his dog Babe and he had to fight back the tears due to the deep connection he had with her. I just don't think the Seaveys have that. I am kind of disturbed by it too. And this year, Dallas talked about his great strategy yet Ramey talked about the heart of his dogs. They are all mushers but they are very different in this regard. I do find the female mushers to appear to have that love for their dogs. Maybe it is a maternal thing? ;)

Get over yourself for cripes sakes. You try to control these boards every year. You need to find a hobby. Your endless posting on every thread, giving out advice, is getting old. But hey, at least you are building a nice post count! When we want the thread police, we know who to call. Sorry, you can go back to rooting for Lance. You have lots of time. :P

The recent posts are correct, it is rather interesting to see the difference in the interaction that the different mushers have with their dogs!
Mackey and Aliy (and others) definitively have a special touch… I was not impressed by Dallas upon arrival.
Lance’s race seemed to have gone well today and it felt good to see him go again for a change. Too bad that he got slowed down earlier in the race at a critical time because of the dog in heat and then later by the weather; bad luck indeed, but we all remain confident that he will come out of this race an even better musher. As he said he would learn from this experience. We cannot wait for the next race!

As for now, GO Lance you can still show that you are a really fantastic musher! You will always remain a champion to me and many others!

What an awesome way to awake, to an email alert on Mackey checking out of Safety! Go Mackey! What a race this year, despite the dog trouble and winter storm in Shatoolik as "LesApes" stated, you have come through all of those issues, and kept going! You could've dropped out, but instead kept pushing on! Such perseverance from a great champion! You are an inspiration to us all!

Here's a down to earth explanation of Lance's race from the champ himself and it just reinforces again all the positive attributes of him and his team that you all have been saying:

He concludes with "The one word I describe my race this year is "entertaining." It’s been a memory.

Its not all bad, even when it’s bad. I think back a few years back when doctors told me I wouldn’t be doing this stuff, and that was bad. Just getting to Nome with a team that is somewhat healthy and somewhat enthusiastic … You don’t have to win to be successful.
