Nome banquet coverage?

Postby emwcee on Sat Mar 21, 2009 7:03 am

Will Insider have coverage of the Nome Banquet this year? Even if the coverage isn't live, I would really like to see a video of all the finishers at the banquet this year. I think last year they had the special awards and the top 20, which was great, but I'd really like to see all the finishers. There are going to be some great stories out there, and I really want to hear them all.

I too want to know and just asked this on the "Let's Eat" thread. I really enjoyed it last year so am very hopeful!

According to the website https://www.iditarod.com/race/tvcoverage.html broadcast schedule, the Awards Banquet is not a live streamed event.

Just received the Iditarod Newsletter and it says:

THE FINISHERS BANQUET IS SET FOR SUNDAY, 22 MARCH
The 2009 Finishers banquet is set to begin at the Nome Recreation Center beginning at 3:30 Alaska Time. The Insider team will be on hand to document the event. Video clips of the banquet should be available by Sunday (March 22) evening.

So hopefully we will eventually get to see something!

The first year Iditarod Insider exsisted, towards the end of the race, II announced we would have live stream from the banquet. Oh boy! What a treat! Unfortunately I had problems and wasn't able to see or hear the banquet. But thanks to my fellow members at Cabela's forum who were able to see and hear, those of us who had problems were kept informed of what was happening. It was fun.

The next year we were looking forward to a better stream from the banquet when, only a few days before the banquet we were informed "NO" there would be no live coverage.

This after a member had called ITC, before paying to join II, and had been told "yes" there would be live streaming.

Wouldn't it be nice if ITC gave us that live stream again. Especially since so many were disappointed with the GPS.

I agree. It would be a great gesture if Insider would give us live streaming video of the banquet. We don't need any commentary or any interviews, so it wouldn't take anyone's time. If Insider could just set up a Ustream camera aimed at the stage, it would be absolutely wonderful. Ustream is very easy to do. In fact, any fan with a laptop could easily set up a Ustream and capture it for us. If Insider isn't going to do it, could a fan do it for us?

Good idea emwcee!

And we don't need anyone talking over what is happening on stage. Yes, the place is noisy, but it would be noisy if we were in the building too. So give this to all fans, not just Insiders. We want to hear their tales from the trail.

The RED LANTERN banquet needs to be live for us all too. Can you even imagine the stories they will have to tell ?!?

The Ustream is an inexpensive means to give this to YOUR fans.

Actually Ustream is totally free. The ads pay for it. My husband just did a Ustream using a mini netbook, using their built-in camera. Worked great. If that isn't possible, maybe someone could record it on their portable mp3 player or Ipod so we could at least hear the stories.

Reccomend that if you want live coverage of the banquets that you go to the Race Talk Forum and click on the thread that is titled Wish List for next year iditarod.com, might not be exactly the right wording but you will find the right one, and voice your want to have thhis coverage. You never know what will come out of it...
