Hi it is Cynthia from Peterborough Ontario. I got the Iditarod bug 3 years ago when a friend suggested I follow on line. I have working border collies and train sheep dogs so the magic of watching what a dog is breed to do is addicting. I'd love to train my dogs to sled to keep them in shape for their summer job. These athletes are amazing (human and canine)

Hi everyone. Very excited to be following another race. I'm from St. Peters, MO and have followed the race via internet since 2003. Was able to visit Alaska in 2009 and take in a few kennel tours. This year I challenged myself to know more of the mushing field. Best way to do that is to follow additional races, friend mushers and kennels on Facebook & Twitter. We even follow the Denali National Park dog team as they go about their work. I no longer have a "favorite" must win musher and my list is too long to only have a top 5 on the Insider. What a quandry to be in. Yes, the YQ was very exciting with Hugh and Alan being seperated by a mere 26 seconds. Will we see a repeat dual between the two in the Iditarod? That is what makes this race so exciting. And to have Sebastian Schnulle following the race on snow mobile giving a unique behind the scenes reports is going to be thrilling too. He did a great job reporting on the Yukon Quest. Glad to meet you all. Now mush!

Hi Iditafans!

Peggy from Independence, KY here, good to be with everyone again. We had a great time following the Yukon Quest here on the forum and I'm counting down the days for the start of Iditarod. For those of you on Facebook, Sebastian Schnuelle posted there during the Quest and will be doing the same for Iditarod, go to FB and "friend" him. He's already started posting.
For any "newbies" log in and join the fun, all comments and questions are welcome. Being able to talk with other Iditaholics will just add to your enjoyment of the race.

Adair, I so agree with you. National TV should be showing some of the race. What is wrong with ESPN? I guess I'll need to contact their website. Maybe if many of us did that, we'd get coverage.

Hi All,
"This is only a test" to make sure I have correct password, etc. before things get into full swing and really crazy! I've followed the Iditarod for the past ten years (got hooked on it when teaching and discovered that it is a fantastic 'teaching tool') and now I'm counting the days/nights until 2012 begins. :)

Hey all!
I am Annemie and I am a South African fan!
I first fell in love with the whole mushing world when I saw the Iditarod 2008 documentary, end of last year ;) I immediately started to Google the Iditarod and the more I read the more I fell in love with it. I find the relationship between the dogs and humans amazing. I have always been fascinated with Alaska and plan to one day visit it…hopefully to be there for an Iditarod start. :D

Being from South Africa, I don’t know much about mushing or the Iditarod and I am hoping to learn this year. So I am asking you to be patient with me if I ask a lot of questions. I will be following this year’s race from my laptop here in South Africa. I really can’t wait for the race to start anymore…been counting down the time from last year.

Some of the mushers that I have come across (on my Google research project Iditarod-and-all-things-mushing) and grown fond of is: Lance Mackey, Dee Dee Jonrowe, Wattie Macdonald (sad that he can join us this year) and Rohn and Martin Buser. They all seem like such down to earth wonderful people. And I think Rohn is so cute! ;)

Good luck to all the mushers this year, may God protect all of them on their journey through Alaska.

I'm back again this year; once again following the race from Riverside, IA. Since neither Blake nor Jennifer Freking are running again this year - gotta love those Siberians :D - I don't have a favorite. Best of luck to all the mushers and their teams!

Hello,

I'm checking in from Austin, Texas. Warm and sunny here, wishing it was cold and snowy. Ah, well. Ready for the Iditarod. My first year following and I am hooked. 8-)

Enjoy all!

Hi, I'm from Cambridge, Ma (just outside Boston). Also a senior in my last years. Have been following races since I was a pup, and the Iditarod since the 70's. Will be in Nome for the first time. Look for me in the Dog Lot, on the Chute, under a Volunteer Desk table, or in a tent on the sea ice (which I hope doesn't break up early this year). That almost happened to Allen Moore a few years ago while he was camped out waiting for Aliy to finish... Made it to Nikolai, McGrath, and Takotna last year, as well as the Ceremonial and Re-start.

Hi all,
I've been following the Iditarod off and on for thirty years. I might have gotten the bug after reading Jack London's books. It culminated in a "trip of a lifetime" to the state in 1986, and one that I'll never forget. I was also a big Susan Butcher fan, but like most all the racers. Last year was a great race but this years Yukon Quest was awesome! I dream of losing some weight and actually going on the trip as an observer some day ;-) Good luck to all the racers and nice to be here again.
James in Mn via Tx
edited to add; i guess if i have a single musher to root for it will be Michael Williams Jr. or the King, Lance Mackey
